Databarracks and SolidFire join forces for Raspberry Pi giveaway at VMworld Europe

Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) provider Databarracks has teamed up with SolidFire to give away 50 Raspberry Pi's to the top scorers of their Noisy Neighbours game at next week's VMworld event in Barcelona.

The game is based on the disruptive "Noisy Neighbour" effect, designed to highlight the difficulty of maintaining consistent storage performance in a multi-tenant cloud.

It was produced to coincide with the publication of research undertaken by Cloud Spectator and neovise demonstrating how Databarracks, in conjunction with SolidFire, deals with the Noisy Neighbour effect to deliver consistent storage performance to its customers, while many competitors fall short of expectations.

Solutions Architect at Databarracks, Mark Thomas, commented: "Until now, getting consistent performance from storage in a public or shared cloud was very difficult because of the nature of multi-tenant storage. Every customer of the cloud service provider could be affected if one customer or "noisy neighbour" performs some I/O intensive activities. We actually give SLAs for specific storage performance so you know exactly what I/O you will be getting, regardless of what anyone else is doing on our platform.

"The workloads we host for our customers aren't just test and development or low priority systems - they are key back-office, tier 1 applications.  For a customer to even consider using a cloud service provider for those key applications, they need to know that they will be getting great performance, and that it will be consistent. VMworld is the perfect opportunity for us to demonstrate exactly how we can provide that."

Thomas will be hosting a vBrownbag presentation on the Noisy Neighbour principal at the event, on Wednesday afternoon at 4.15pm, discussing why inconsistent storage performance in a cloud environment doesn't need to be an issue for organisations anymore.

VMworld is one of the biggest events on the tech calendar, taking place from 15th-17th of this month. The Fira Gran Via is likely to see more than 8,000 IT professional and 100 sponsors walk through its doors over the course of the 3 days, with a wide host of breakout sessions, workshops and presentations from industry experts taking place each day.
