Video - What is Disaster Recovery as a Service?

Disaster recovery is often the service organisations choose as their first step into cloud computing. We've seen the adoption of cloud-based DR increase rapidly over the last 12 months as more and more businesses begin to realise the benefits of scalable recovery.

For businesses that have completely virtualised their on-site environment, the concept of outsourcing DR to a third party provider is quite simple. But actually, DRaaS allows for the recovery of physical servers too.  In fact, the majority of our customers still need to protect some physical servers.

As well as enterprises, we're also seeing an increase in adoption by smaller companies who previously couldn't afford a full DR function because of the prohibitively high costs associated with it. The economies of scale and new models of pricing created by cloud computing has meant these costs have been significantly reduced, allowing businesses of all sizes to capitalise on the benefits of services like disaster recovery.

Before, if an organisation wanted rapid recovery in the event of a disaster they needed a replica of their entire primary site – essentially doubling up on a second set of hardware that for 99% of the year will sit unused.

Our new animation explains exactly why Disaster Recovery as a Service is becoming the preferred option when compared to traditional, in-house DR:
