What makes Databarracks tick? Research & Innovation

Innovation is in our blood at Databarracks. We're constantly looking for ways to improve our services, or find new ways to solve our customers' problems.

Over the past couple of years we've incubated and invested in a number of startups in exciting areas of technology.

First up there's Kazoup. Kazoup was founded and developed by our very own Head of R&D, and Head of Business Development – Radek and Jo. Using a combination of file analytics, easy cloud archiving and powerful search, Kazoup enables users to take control of expensive storage growth and increase intelligence across the business.

First, the software analyses the entire network with beautiful data visualisations. It then defines automated archive policies to send unaccessed files to cheap, secure cloud object storage. Finally it uses powerful content-level search to help users find what they need faster. In its first couple of years in business, Kazoup has already won multiple awards within the industry and is working with some really prestigious customers. They're definitely one to watch in 2016.

Next is Mailsphere – a disruptively priced, next generation email security and archiving solution. Mailsphere leverages the flexibility and scalability of the cloud to offer enterprise-class anti-virus, anti-spam and archiving capabilities. It is focussed on fixing some of the problems businesses have had with existing email security products, including offering unlimited email archiving as part of the service at about a third of the cost of alternative product.

It's not just in startups that we foster innovation. We constantly assess and adjust the services we provide to make sure we're using the most effective, leading technologies on the market. We were early to the cloud DR market and coined the term Virtual Disaster Recovery. In the last two years there has been a surge in interest in cloud based DR. We realised that our customers weren't happy paying for a secondary data centre purely for disaster recovery, but by offering DRaaS we can give them the flexibility of cloud computing combined with recovery experts they can rely on to get them up and running again in the event of a disaster.

This year, we were featured as a niche player in Gartner's 2015 Magic Quadrant for Disaster Recovery, for our DRaaS offering. We scored highly for our completeness of vision – which includes innovation, strategy and market understanding. Compared to a lot of the other service providers in the disaster recovery area, we're considered a fairly small organisation so we were ecstatic to be recognised in a report that is globally revered. It's proof that you can provide world-class services without detracting from a high-quality personal service.
