Data security analysis offered to UK businesses

The UK's largest managed cloud backup company, Databarracks, has launched its 2012 online Data Health Check.

Only last month the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) was urging British companies to conduct their own 'check ups' as the number of notices it served for data security lapses jumped 48% during 2011-2012*.

The Data Health Check, which is running for the third time, is a questionnaire which allows companies to thoroughly assess their data security procedures.

Once a minimum of 500 respondents have completed the survey, it will produce a personalised infographic report for each participant, revealing how their answers compared to other businesses in their sector and across UK industry as a whole.

In previous years, the Data Health Check has provided valuable insight into data backup and security in the UK, charting technology trends and revealing the major concerns businesses have regarding business continuity and data security.

This year, the Data Health Check will also monitor how data security is being affected by the cloud and will uncover what, if anything, companies are doing with regard to data security and BYOD.

The survey, which can be found at survey.databarracks.com, will provide participants with a benchmark for data security standards in their field. It will also give respondents an awareness of technology adoption in their sector, such as the cloud.

"We all want to know how our own strategies measure up to those of our competitors and peers," says Peter Groucutt, Managing Director at Databarracks. "The Data Health Check gives respondents a chance to see if they are ahead of the curve or lagging behind when it comes to data security, Disaster Recovery and cloud computing."

"The survey is a good way for us to get a picture of what's going on in the IT departments of UK businesses as well as find out where IT decision makers want to see improvements. At the same time, we want to make sure there is a real benefit for the companies who go to the trouble of taking the survey by giving each respondent a personalised report of the survey findings," adds Groucutt.

The Data Health Check is running from 28 September 2012.
