The Databarracks classroom opens it's doors for Tech Talk Thursdays

We asked some of our technicians to break out the chalkboard and take us back to school to cover a few confusing areas within cloud computing – and Oscar, George, Mark and Jo were more than happy to oblige.

Covering topics from backup, disaster recovery and IaaS; the video tutorials deal with the basic elements of cloud services, such as a summary of the different types of replication available and a definition of the cloud consumption models on offer, to more complex issues like how to fail back to your own environment following a disaster recovery invocation. All in less than 4 minutes.

Our engineers deal with these issues every day, and these are the questions they are most commonly asked. Cloud computing is still a relatively new phenomenon, which makes it tricky to know where to go for reliable information or answers. We've made these videos as objective as possible; we're not trying to position our services above anyone else's  - we're just making the most of our technicians' experience to provide a quick and useful way to answer the common queries we get from our customers.

So who will you be listening to?

Oscar Arean is our Technical Operations Manager. Security is Oscar's main priority and so he always has this in mind when discussing replication and DR and when comparing the different types of backup.

Solutions Architect Mark Thomas has a wealth of experience within the IT industry and, having built our own Infrastructure as a Service platform, no one is more qualified to talk about hybrid clouds, maintaining consistent performance, and cloud consumption models.

George Pollard is one of our most experienced technicians and is qualified in Asigra backup, making him the perfect person to explain the pros and cons of agent-based vs. agentless backup, when you should be using snapshotting, as well as the process of Backup Lifecycle Management.

Johan Holder is one of our resident experts in Amazon Web Services. He takes you through the steps you need to follow to build a successful and globally scalable web application using the many features available through AWS.

We'll be releasing more 'lessons' on Twitter over the course of the next few weeks. A couple of preview videos are already available to watch on our YouTube channel. We'd love your feedback on them.

If there are any topics you'd like to see covered or questions you'd like answered then let us know – we'd be happy to put together a chalk-talk to clear everything up. Email us at info@databarracks.com or you can tweet us at @databarracks.
